What is Bitcoin Halving?
Halving refers to changes in Bitcoin’s underlying blockchain technology that are intended to slow down the rate at which new Bitcoins are created.
Since
its founding by a pseudonymous person named Satoshi Nakamoto, Bitcoin has been structured in such a way that the supply of his 21 million tokens is limited.
This
is the fourth halving event in Bitcoin history. During the first halving in 2012, the reward dropped from $50 to $25. The latest halving further reduces the reward to $3,125, which is equivalent to almost $200,000 at current prices, with Bitcoin trading at $64,000 as of April 19th.
